What is PMMA acrylic granules?

PMMA is polymethyl methacrylate, also known as plexiglass, acrylic (acrylic), methyl methacrylate (MMA) is its raw material. It is a thermoplastic material that can soften and flow when heated, and can be processed into various shapes like plastics, and will harden and keep its shape when the temperature is lowered. 
What are the benefits of PMMA acrylic granules? 
  
High transparency:
the light transmittance can reach more than 90%, even up to 92%, it is the preferred material for manufacturing glass substitutes and other transparent products, which can be used to make optical lenses, lighting instruments and windows, etc. 

Good weather resistance: it has good weather resistance, can be used for a long time in outdoor environment, and is not easy to be affected by obvious aging or discolouration.

Strong impact resistance: not easy to break or shatter when subjected to heavy impacts or crashes.

What are the injection molding process of PMMA acrylic ?

 1. PMMA has a certain degree of water absorption, its water absorption rate of up to, and injection moulding must be in the temperature below %, usually %. The presence of water makes the melt appear bubbles, air lines, transparency is reduced and so on. So it should be dried. Drying temperature 80-90, time for about 4 hours.

2. injection moulding machine selection The PMMA injection moulding machine has no special requirements. Because of its melt viscosity, it needs a deeper screw groove and larger diameter nozzle hole. If the strength of the product is required to be higher, it is necessary to use a larger aspect ratio of the screw to implement low-temperature plasticization. In addition, PMMA must be stored in a dry hopper.

3. Mould and gate design mould temperature can be 60-80, the diameter of the main runner should match the inner taper, the best angle is 5 to 7, if you want to inject 4mm or more products, the angle should be 7, the diameter of the main runner up to 8-10mm, the overall length of the gate should not be more than 50mm. for the wall thickness of less than 4mm of the product, the diameter of the runner should be 6-8mm for the wall thickness of more than 4mm of the product, the runner diameter should be 8-12mm. For products with wall thickness greater than 4mm, the runner diameter should be 8-12mm. The depth of the sprue should be up to (t is the wall thickness of the product), and the diameter of the pin sprue should be up to 2mm; for low viscosity, a smaller size should be used.

5. The melt temperature can be measured by the air injection method: from 210 to 270, depending on the information provided by the supplier.
Injection temperature can be injected quickly, but to avoid a high degree of internal stress, it is desirable to use multi-stage injection, such as slow-fast-slow, etc., when the injection of thick parts, the use of slow.

6. Retention time If the temperature is 260, the maximum retention time should not exceed 10 minutes, if the temperature is 270, the retention time should not exceed 8 minutes. Cylinder temperature feeding zone 60~80 (70) The temperatures in parentheses are recommended as the basic setting values, stroke utilisation is 35% and 65%, and the ratio of mould flow length to wall thickness is 50:1 to 100:1.

7. Holding pressure 100~170MPa (1000~1700bar); for thick cross-section products, high holding pressure and long holding time are required, e.g., lenses (40%~60% of injection pressure for 2~3min). Back pressure needs to be relatively high: 10~30MPa (100~300bar); insufficient back pressure will easily cause voids or grey-black spots in the products. Injection speed depends on the cross-section thickness and flow length: thick cross-section products require very low injection speeds to achieve a suitable pre-flow effect; multi-stage injection: slow to fast speeds are recommended to be used near the gate for good surface quality.
