Why need to add glass fiber to pp granules ?
PP with glass fiber (referred to as PP filled with glass fiber) is a common composite material, which is based on polypropylene and modified by adding glass fiber.
The heat resistance temperature of PP plus glass fiber can reach 135 ° C - 145 ° C, and even 150 ° C can withstand more than 1000 hours. Due to the addition of glass fiber, the mutual movement between polymer chains of PP plastic is limited, so the shrinkage rate of glass fiber reinforced PP (PP plus glass fiber) is reduced, and the rigidity, impact resistance, tensile strength, compressive strength, bending strength and flame retardant are improved. The mechanical properties of PP plus glass fiber, specifically, the tensile strength reached 65MPa-90mpa, the bending strength reached 70MPa-20mpa, and the bending modulus reached 3000MPa-4500mpa, so the mechanical strength can be completely comparable to ABS and enhanced ABS products, and more heat resistant .

What are the differences between homopolymerized pp and copolymerized pp in terms of production methods, properties and applications?
1. Different production methods:
Homopolymerized PP: polymerized from a single propylene monomer, the molecular chain does not contain ethylene monomer. The use of high-boiling straight-chain hydrocarbons as a solvent, operating at temperatures higher than the melting point of polypropylene, the resulting polymer is dissolved in the solvent is a homogeneous distribution of the polymer1.
Copolymerized PP: obtained by copolymerizing propylene monomer with a small amount of ethylene (1-4%) monomer under heat, pressure and catalyst. The solvent is removed by evaporation in a high temperature gas extraction method to obtain molten polypropylene, which is then extruded and pelletized to obtain pelletized products1.
2. Different performance:
Homopolymerized PP: has a high degree of crystallinity and melting point, so the material has good rigidity, but less impact resistance (more brittle). In addition, homopolymerized PP has poor dimensional stability, is susceptible to aging, and has poor long-term thermal stability4.
Copolymer PP: Due to the addition of ethylene monomer, the crystallinity and melting point of the polymer are lowered, improving the material's performance in terms of impact, long-term hydrostatic pressure resistance, long-term heat and oxygen aging resistance, and pipe processing and molding. The molecular chain structure of copolymerized PP is more complex, so it has better flexibility and chemical resistance4.
3. Different uses:
Homopolymer PP: Suitable for making packing tape, blowing bottles, brushes, ropes, woven bags, toys, folders, electrical appliances, household goods, microwave oven lunch boxes, storage boxes, packaging paper film and other products4.
Copolymer PP: Suitable for making crates, bottles, paint buckets, large containers and heavy-duty packaging, etc. It can also be used to produce pipes, plates, battery shells, etc.3.
