What types of TPU are there for extrusion coating?
1. Classification by chemical structure type
Polyester TPU
Polyester TPU is formed by condensation of aromatic dicarboxylic acid and aliphatic diol, and a polymer is obtained by chain extension and cross-linking. Its performance and characteristics are very similar to those of polyurethane, with good wear resistance, oil resistance and mechanical strength. When extruded for coating, it can provide good physical properties and durability for the coating, and is suitable for some scenes with high requirements for wear resistance and oil resistance, such as industrial belts, solid tires and other coatings.
Polyether TPU
Polyether TPU has good hydrolysis resistance, low temperature flexibility and microbial resistance, high impact strength, aging resistance and other characteristics. It is suitable for extrusion coating of pipes, wire and cable sheaths, special-shaped strips and non-reinforced products.
2. Classification by functional characteristics
High-flow TPU
High-flow TPU has good fluidity during the extrusion process and can pass through the extruder more smoothly to form a uniform coating. This makes it perform well in some applications that require high uniformity of coating thickness, such as extrusion coating of film sheets. It can improve production efficiency and reduce defects on the coating surface.
Weather-resistant TPU
Weather-resistant TPU has excellent UV resistance, aging resistance, and high and low temperature resistance, and can be used for a long time in outdoor environments without significant performance changes. It is mainly used for extrusion coating of automotive interiors, outdoor products, electronic IT industries, etc.
Wear-resistant TPU
Wear-resistant TPU has excellent wear resistance and can protect the surface of the coated object from wear. It is suitable for extrusion coating of some occasions that are often subject to friction, such as soles, conveyor belts, etc.
Flame-retardant TPU
Flame-retardant TPU has flame-retardant properties, which can slow down the combustion speed or prevent the spread of combustion when encountering a fire source, thereby improving the safety of the product. In some fields with high fire protection requirements, such as coatings for electronic and electrical products, coatings for building materials, etc., flame-retardant TPU will be in demand.
