(ABS is the abbreviation of Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene, which refers to acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene copolymer) is a thermoplastic polymer structural material with high strength, good toughness and easy processing and molding, also known as ABS resin.
ABS engineering plastics have an opaque ivory-colored granular appearance, and its products can be colored in various colors and have high gloss. The relative density of ABS is about 1.05, and the water absorption rate is low. ABS has good bonding with other materials and is easy to print, coat and plate on the surface. The oxygen index of ABS is 18~20, which is a flammable polymer. The flame is yellow, there is black smoke, and it emits a special cinnamon smell.
Mechanical properties
ABS has excellent mechanical properties, and its impact strength is excellent. It can be used at extremely low temperatures: ABS has excellent wear resistance, good dimensional stability, and oil resistance. It can be used for bearings under medium loads and speeds. ABS has greater creep resistance than PSF and PC, but less than PA and POM. ABS's bending strength and compression strength are relatively poor among plastics. The mechanical properties of ABS are greatly affected by temperature.
Thermal properties
ABS's heat deformation temperature is 93~118ºC, and the product can be increased by about 10ºC after annealing. ABS can still show a little toughness at -40ºC and can be used in a temperature range of -40~100ºC.
Electrical properties
ABS has good electrical insulation and is almost unaffected by temperature, humidity and frequency. It can be used in most environments.
Environmental properties
ABS is not affected by water, inorganic salts, alkalis and various acids, but is soluble in ketones, aldehydes and chlorinated hydrocarbons. It will produce stress cracking when eroded by glacial acetic acid, vegetable oils, etc. ABS has poor weather resistance and is easily degraded under the action of ultraviolet light; after half a year outdoors, its impact strength drops by half.
