Why to add carbon fiber to PBT resin?

 The role of PBT  reinforced with carbon fiber
PBT (polybutylene terephthalate) is a thermoplastic engineering plastic with excellent mechanical properties, chemical resistance and thermal stability. However, traditionally PBT materials are insulating and do not have conductive properties. In order to meet the needs of some specific applications, conductive PBT materials have been developed, and one way is to add conductive fillers, such as carbon fibers, carbon black, and metal fibers, to the PBT base material. The following are the main effects of adding carbon fibers to PBT:

Improvement of electrical conductivity
By adding carbon fibers to PBT, its conductive properties can be significantly improved. This conductive PBT material can effectively conduct electricity and release electrostatic charges, avoiding problems caused by static buildup and electrostatic discharge. Carbon fiber conductive PBT has a low surface resistance and volume resistance, making it widely used in electronic equipment, electromagnetic shielding, electrostatic protection and other fields.

Enhanced mechanical properties
The addition of carbon fiber not only improves the conductive properties of PBT, but also enhances its mechanical properties. Injection  molding process of PBT granules :

 Drying: PBT needs to be dried at 110~120ºC for about 3 hours before injection molding.
Molding processing temperature: generally 250 ~ 270 ºC, mold temperature control at 50 ~ 75 ºC is appropriate.
Cooling time: As PBT from the molten state will immediately solidify and crystallize once cooled, so the cooling time is short.
